Notes on setting up chess engines in Scid

In Scid, open the following menu item.

Tools ->Analysis Engine

Hightlight Scidlet and click Edit There will be a line marked Command and after it three dots. Click on the 3 dots, and push the up arror several times. until you see My Computer. Then go to:

My Computer -> Local Disc (C:) -> Program Files -> Scid ->bin

and click on Scidlet.exe or Scidlet (it may be shows with the .exe extension, or it may not - it depends on how your Windows XP system is configred.) Note it is not Scid you want, but Scidlet. Crafty is a stronger chess engine than Scidlet, so it usually better to use that. Crafty needs to be installed. Open the following link in a browser: ftp://ftp.cis.uab.edu/pub/hyatt/executables/crafty-20.14.exe Save this to the directory

My Computer -> Local Disc (C:) -> Program Files -> Scid ->bin

Scid must now be set up to use this chess engine. To do this, select

Tools ->Analysis Engine #2

This time select Crafty, and not Scidlet as before. Select Edit. There will be a line which says Command and says wcrafty.exe. Click the 3 dots on the end of the command line, push the Up arrow as many times as you need to, then select

My Computer -> Local Disc (C:) -> Program Files -> Scid ->bin and click on crafy-20.14 (or it might be 20.14.exe). That complete setting up the chess engines.
